Fall 2024
Paula Krupa is the new recipient of our Garden Award, Sept./Oct. 2024.
Paula traces her love for gardening back to her grandmother. Both of them have created beautiful gardens. Paula has lived in Safety Harbor for 30 years and led a successful business, “Accents by Paula”. This week she is moving her business from Main Street to 526 2nd Street North.
One cannot miss the lovely, colorful front yard, designed and planted by Paula, featuring, among old trees, a multitude of bright-colored flowers and bushes, most of which are pollinators. (Look also for the cozy nook with table and chairs.)
Everything there will make you feel welcomed, and surrounded by nature!

Susan Zinkel is our latest Garden Award winner! 600 5th Ave S. Her wrap-around front yard and garden at the corner of 5th Ave and 6th St S. is a rare treasure. Susan bought the house ten years ago. It sat on a dirt lot. And now it is an amazing “place of Zen and Peace”.
A large variety of mostly native plants, many of them propagated by Susan, including many pollinators, will dazzle you! This place, with various inviting seating areas, a collection of creative garden art, a fire pit, is welcoming to Susan’s friends and even strangers.
You will find it easily by turning from Bayshore into 6th St. South.
Winter 2023
“Two alert Garden Club members pointed out to me this beautiful front garden, planted and maintained by Mercily Toledo, located at 629 4th Ave. N, Safety Harbor.
Mercily re-designed her front yard when she bought her house three years ago, and she takes excellent care of it.
The emphasis is on pollinators. A large Cranberry Hibiscus, f.ex., had hundreds of bees and other flying insects at work. Instead of grass, you see a variety of beautiful plants, many of them the much needed pollinators.”
Fall 2023
The latest winner of our Garden Award is Gregory Thurston. Greg has lived at 3432 State Road 580, #341 in Bay’s End Manor (Safety Harbor) for 3 years, and it is here where he discovered his love and talent for gardening.
Greg lived previously in Los Angeles, New York and Miami and has a professional background in the pharma industry, graphics, and entertainment.
Greg has transferred his small front yard from unremarkable to a lush garden with specially selected variety of plants and trees, well taken care of and attractively arranged, and is now proudly displaying our Garden Club’s award sign. Greg’s neighbors, too, enjoy his gardening suggestions and help.
June 2023
Julie Scott at 535 3rd Street N. is the latest recipient of our Garden Club’s Garden Award.
Julie has lived in Safety Harbor for about 5 years, and had this beautiful home built in 2022. She designed the colorful landscaping of the front yard, with helpful suggestions from a neighbor.
Julie has placed extra emphasis on also planting pollinator plants, aware of our city’s and the S.H. Garden Club’s efforts to attract more pollinators to our area. Julie’s place is a gem in the neighborhood and our town.

Lara and Glenn Shane moved their family home to Safety Harbor nearly eight years ago, but Safety Harbor has always been a part of their lives. Glenn proposed to Lara in Philippe Park and they got married at the S.H. Spa 25 years ago. Their son attended S.H. Montessori for 12 years.
All their yard art came from local artists, S.H. Main Street and vendors of local festivals. Lara is also an active volunteer in our town.
Lara and Glenn have created their own yard and keep it up beautifully. They recently decided to add some pollinator plants to assist with our city’s and the Garden Club’s effort to attract more butterflies and beneficial insects.
